When we hear the word of the Lord proclaimed to us, our natural response as Christians is to mistakenly believe we have the capacity and integrity within ourselves to obey and fulfil His word. But this futile belief is self-righteous and opposed to the way of the cross. The only way to life and true righteousness is by the blood of Christ, given to us as we abide in His offering.
