Nehemiah proclaimed that “the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10). The joy of the Lord is God's own joy, not our self-generated happiness or mindless optimism in the face of suffering. When God gives us His joy, He gives us Himself, and His joy in us becomes our strength.
